Mysteries of Sintra

Known as the underground and mysterious city, with large tunnels and large galleries, nicknamed by Ptolemy, from Mountain of the Moon, the Sintra mountain tunnels are one of Portugal’s most well-hidden secrets, all due to the fact that it is not possible to enter in the tunnels, as they are obstructed.

With Arabian design, the National Palace of Sintra, is surrounded by a fascinating haze of legends. This legend is not well known, but what is known is that in a cave in Jardim da Pena, near the entrance gate, apparently a fairy usually cries every night, is it due to an impossible love? Does this fairy exist?

Long ago, it was believed that beneath a boulder, which was in the middle of the Sintra mountain range, there was a hidden treasure that would belong only to those who could bring down that same stone with eggs. An old lady believed that this treasure could be yours and started throwing eggs against the boulder, but she never discovered the treasure. Even today, some say you see the mosses that cover the boulder with the color of the egg yolks you flung.

Sintra is one of the most visited places in Lisbon and is one of the most magical and mystical places we can ever visit in Portugal.
